BALJIT SINGH

Do a search for ‘Gurdwara in USA’ on the internet and you will be directed to the following site - www.Gurdwara.us.

If you select the cities to the left you are directed to Hindu Temple sites in the US.

A careful review of the site says reveals the following:

Who are the Sikhs?
Sikhs are adherents of the monotheistic religion known as Sikhism.

There are about 30 million Sikhs, most of them living in the North Indian state of Punjab.

A 15th century HINDU SAINT Guru Nanak (1469-1539) is acknowledged as the founder of Sikhism.

Some of the well known Sikhs of the 20th and 21st centuries include Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, late Indian President Zail Singh, the athlete Milka Singh, revolutionary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, the writer Khushwant Singh and the TERRORIST Bhindranwale.

Is this a valid exercise in our precious American freedom of expression?

Or is it mischief, intended to foment trouble?

Isn’t it interference by a foreign power and foreigners in the affairs of law-abiding Americans?

We urgently need a powerful body which has the express mandate to monitor every aspect of the media today to catch such misinformation and propaganda and pursue the perpetrators will the full power and weight of the law.

This is alarming! This is not misinformation but criminal disinformation against Sikhs. It is time to deal with anti-Sikh defamation.

2: Sarjit Kaur (Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.), October 29, 2012, 1:08 PM.

It is human nature to discredit others ... for selfish worldly gain ... but the good news is that those who practice it, fail to realize that the joke/ karma is really on them, to wash our spiritual laundry with this evil trait of theirs :)

3: Harmeet Singh (USA), October 29, 2012, 3:26 PM.

Sarjit Kaur ji: The problem with your argument is that while you can accept it as human nature, a rational human being cannot. Would you also accept crimes against humanity as part of human nature? It has no place in humanity except abnormal psychology. Please don't combine the two together for sake of saving your own rationality.

4: Dr.Birinder Singh Ahluwalia (Toronto, Ontario, Canada), October 29, 2012, 3:52 PM.

Freedom of speech is a fundamental right of any successful democracy such as America. Any narrow interpretation or exercise of this statute or right will impact a devastating blow to any democracy. I understand the frustration of the author, but putting a curb on freedom of speech is not the answer or cure for sure to the ill he is alluding to.

5: Harmeet Singh (USA), October 29, 2012, 4:33 PM.

Dr Ahluwalia: Of course, freedom of speech should be preserved, that's why there are more than a thousand hate groups in the U.S. However, this is not what the website is doing. This is almost like some criminal claiming to be Dr. Birinder Singh Ahluwalia launches a website under the name of Dr. Birinder Singh Ahluwalia and labels you a criminal on that very site. Would you call that freedom of speech? I suggest it is a version of libel. The website is promoting libel against Sikhs by masquerading as a Sikh website and claiming that Sikhs promote terrorism. This is prosecutable.

6: Baljit Singh Pelia (Los Angeles, California, U.S.A.), October 29, 2012, 5:09 PM.

Dr. Ahluwalia ji, this is not a comment or opinion that can be swept aside as a freedom of speech issue. Rather, it is a willful, deliberate attempt to mislead the whole world into believing: 1) That Sikhs themselves claim that Sikhi is a part of Hinduism. 2) The second objective is even more serious, to inform the world that we are terrorists and therefore undeserving of any sympathy, even though it was our gurdwaras and our people that had been atacked. History will judge Bhindrawale as the last hero of the subcontinent who fought for liberty, justice and autonomy and who stood the ground against a terrorist government.

7: Baldev Singh (Bradford, United Kingdom), October 29, 2012, 7:16 PM.

The Internet, like all other things humans have created, can be used wisely, giving immense knowledge, convenience and pleasure ... or abused to create division, hatred and chaos for selfish, egotistical gratification!

8: Sarjit Kaur (Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.), October 30, 2012, 7:43 PM.

I agree, Harmeet Singh ji, but I am not trying to rationalize ... simply assuring that we will reap what we sow, especially if we ignore living with Waheguru in our hearts.

9: Kulwant Singh (U.S.A.), October 30, 2012, 10:59 PM.

I'm no lawyer, but can't you take legal action if someone is trying to wrongfully defame you? I believe there is a law regarding that.

10: Karamjeet Singh (Chicago, Illinois, USA), October 30, 2012, 11:57 PM.

I recall some Hindu groups and associations inimical to Sikhs who continually prop up such pranks and sites. For example, NDTV was showing a skit on Fauja Singh, the marathoner, as running only because he's trying to flee the 1984 mobs. I believe Rekha Inc. can be sued for disinformation and for that Sikh Advocacy groups - Sikh Coalition, United Sikhs, Saldef, etc., can take up the matter. This fraudulent site must be brought down as they are falsely claiming to be catering to Gurdwara sites and thus generating ad revenue for themselves.
