Surge of Emotion:
Valvalla

A poem by Bhai Vir Singh, translated from Punjabi by Dr YUKTANAND SINGH:

Those summits, where

Wings of reason were

Turned to ashes.

My heart, over and over ...

Soars there.

An unseen cup

Meets my lips ... where

Nectar imbues me

And rocks me tenderly.

‘Scholar’ deters:

“Pipe dreams!” warns he,

“Sans our intellect

The dreamers have drowned.”

“Sit, O scholar!

Behind bars of the intellect

Land of sentiment

Is our love newfound.”
