The Month of Mungghar
[November 14 - December 13]
Poems translated from Punjabi by GURMEET KAUR
1 Guru Nanak [Raag Tukhaari, GGS: 1109]
In the month of Mungghar - mesmeric
She revels
The embrace
Of the gracious bestower
Worthy bride
Drenched in his glorious virtues
Pleases
The Perpetual Master
Cognizant of verity
She trusts
Not the capricious creation
But the clever creator
Divine knowledge
Contemplative consciousness
Righteous heart
She rejoices such living
If it be his will
Songs of the supreme
Sounds of the splendid
Poetry of the peaceful
Name of the beloved
Liberate her afflictions
Says Nanak:
She who surrenders
Loves from her core
Dwells in devotion
Is loved back manifold
In the month of Mungghar - mesmeric.
2 Guru Arjan [Raag Maajh, GGS: 135]
In the month of Mungghar - mesmeric
Alluring
Are the ones
Abiding with the Lord
Sublime
Is their beauty
One with the Celestial
Flowering
Body and Minds
Rejoice in kinship
Forlorn
Some wander
Separated from the saints
Suffering
Abounds
Maya captivates
Support
Of the Sustainer
Alone exhilarates
Bejeweled
In the Naam
She radiates
Seeks Nanak:
The company of such
Sanctuary of the One who have obtained
Liberated
Are the imbued
Cycles of birth and death cease
Agonies intermit
In the month of Mungghar - mesmeric

I can't think of a nicer way to start the month than reflecting on the Name through your poetry. Maybe one day I will be able to read it in Punjabi. Until then, I am blessed to contemplate divinity through the prism of a friend's heart.

Each month comes with a reminder of our main objective of this life.
