Sikh-Aussie Wrestler To Represent Australia Internationally:
Rupinder Kaur
NEWS REPORT
Melbourne, Australia
Australian women's wrestling team for this year's Commonwealth Games has Sikh-Aussie Rupinder Kaur making the cut in the three-strong squad for the July 23 to August 3, 2014 event in Glasgow, Scotland.
Rupinder will compete in the 53 kg division.
In an interview on Australia’s SBS Punjabi radio channel recently, Rupinder said that "this is the first time I am participating in an international game for Australia as I did not have my permanent Australian residency."
Rupinder immigrated to Australia seven years ago from Punjab.
Since then, she has won many gold medals in a string of National Games in Australia.
"I was born in Patiala. I was into Judo and played national level competition at school," Rupinder added.
"However, my coach encouraged me to join wrestling. I took part in all national games in Australia including The Australian Cup and have won gold medals," she said.
"Everyone in my family and friends have always been very supportive. They have always encouraged me and have been happy to see my success in the game," she said.

Wow, what a treat, the two of you on sikhchic.com. Your neighbouring Japreet touching the sky and you, Rupinder, making your opponent eat the dust ... and that too, internationally!

Congratulations and best of luck! Happy to see a Sikh-Aussie hold up the flag.
