NEWS REPORTS
The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) has announced the appointment of Sikh-Canadian Baljit Singh Chadha as a Distinguished Fellow of the Foundation.
Sardar Baljit Singh is the founder of Balcorp Limited. He was named a member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada in 1993.
"Baljit Singh Chadha has long been a close friend and supporter of the Foundation," APF Canada President and CEO, Yuen Pau Woo said. "We are fortunate to be able to draw on his extensive experience as a successful businessperson, public policy thinker, and community leader, and we look forward to working with him."
As a Distinguished Fellow of the Foundation, Baljit will offer input and advice on the institution's research program on Canada's ties with Asia, especially with India.
"I am very proud to have been appointed a distinguished Fellow of the Foundation," Baljit Singh said. "I look forward to contributing my knowledge, experience and insight to help build stronger Canada-Asia relations, particularly relations between Canada and India."
Baljit Singh has been a key player in a number of international trade missions and treaty development processes. In Canada, at the highest levels, he has made valued contributions to international Trade Missions led by the Prime Minister of Canada and the Premier of Quebec, and the opening of the Canadian Consulate General in Chandigarh, India.
Baljit obtained his undergraduate science degree (B.Sc.) at the University of Bombay before immigrating to Canada. He has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Concordia University in Montreal and a Diploma in Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. He also holds corporate director certification (ICD.D) from the Institute of Corporate Directors and the Rotman School of Business at the University of Toronto.
The Asia Pacific Foundation is an independent resource for Canadians on contemporary Asia and Canada-Asia relations. As a national not-for-profit organization established by an Act of the Federal Parliament in 1984, the Foundation brings together people and knowledge to provide the most current and comprehensive research, analysis and information on Asia and on Canada's transpacific relations. It promotes dialogue on economic, security, political and social issues, helping to inform public policy, the Canadian public and Canada's Asia practitioners. The Foundation is funded principally through an endowment from the Government of Canada and by corporate and individual donors.
