Sikh-American Fan Croons With U2's Bono

NEWS REPORT

Fans of U2 and Bono at their recent ‘360 Tour' at the Fed Ex Field in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 were given a special and unexpected treat.

As Bono sang his classic "Sunday Bloody Sunday", he was joined by Amp Singh Bains of New Jersey - a fan that Bono spontaneously picked out of the teeming audience and invited onto the stage, and two together belted out the song over a single microphone, to the delight of the see-out stadium.

All the while he sang, the Sikh-American waved the red, white and blue - the American ‘Stars & Stripes" - that Bono handed to him as he helped the fan onto the stage.

This latest clip will certainly go down in music history and be archived alongwith the other famous clips of Sikhs - either as fans or on-stage musicians - with renowned singers and musicians, ranging from the classic scene with the Beatles, to the jam sessions with Nelly Furtado ... or, most recently, of Shamsher Singh providing accompaniment to Shakira.

Gurdas Mann should learn a lesson from these young Sikhs such as Amp Singh and Shamsher Singh.

The need for creating a symptomatic infliction and inclination towards self-magnification is meaningless. [Editor: Right! No one could have made it clearer!]

Nice video! Thanks for sharing. Let's stay positive about the good things that are happening and let's leave Gurdas Mann and others like Daler, Mikaa, Bhajji (cricketer), Sukhwinder, Jagjit Singh (Ghazal Singer) or Gulzar (yaa, he too is a Sikh) alone. God Bless!

Easy, people. Bono just spotted a Sikh-American, who turned out to be Amp Singh Bains, and they both sang and danced. That's all! Why start going after other Punjabi singers, for whatever reason?

Excellent video of a high energy fan (AMP = a unit of electrical current!) selected from the audience to sing along with a great artist.

Irvinder: it was a valid comparison because Gurdas Mann exhibited phobia against Sikhs wearing kirpans to his concert in Canada. He should take a cue from Bono, for not feeling threatened by fans ...

I will look into your accusation about Gurdas Mann's "phobia against Sikhs wearing kirpans to his concert in Canada". But it's not justified. I know Mann for a long time; he has no such thing against Sikhs or any of his fans.

Well done, Amp! Great opportunity to show the world what a handsome sight a Sikh man makes! It is correct that Kirpans were banned at Gurdas Mann's concerts. It is about time that we Sikhs in the diaspora start taking advantage of our purchasing power by boycotting those who try to erode our hard won rights and demoralize us. If Gursikhs are not good enough for Gurdas Mann, then Sikh money is also not good enough for him ... why are we giving it to him!
