I'm in Love Again ...

by INNI KAUR

I have a confession to make.

I am totally hooked on the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs show, which is currently being shown on Zee television.

The competition started off with twenty-eight entrants, who were selected from different areas of India. We are now down to the final three contestants. All hearts are beating and it seems that all of India is caught in the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa hoopla.

Well, not just India, but also amongst us here in America and across the diaspora; we're all in the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa mode.

My young friend, Tegh Zoraver Singh from Redwood City, California, who is six years old, is a huge fan of Rohanpreet.

Zoraver and I have exchanged views on Rohanpreet's singing. He tells me: "Rohanpreet is really cool; I want to be just like him. I watch him on YouTube with my mum and my sister, Hazuri. She thinks he's cool too. Mum likes his style of patka and his clothes, but I like his voice the best".

And, he quickly adds: "I hope he wins!"

Yes, Rohanpreet has won my heart, too. Not only mine, but my mother's, as well. I check in daily with her as to the status of Rohanpreet's singing. She, being in India, has an advantage over me.

I think he has a magnificent voice and is a total charmer.

I love the way Aditya Narayan, the host of the show, introduces him - "Sardar Rohanpreet Singh!" Hearing that fills me with such pride.

Sonu Nigam, India's leading singer and Suresh Wadkar, a well-known Marathi and Hindi playback singer, are the judges of this show. I marvel at the way they handle their comments, knowing that they are dealing with tender hearts. I think they are very thoughtful and honest.

From what I can gather, Rohanpreet is a Grade Seven student at the Guru Harkrishan Public School, Patiala, Punjab. His best subject is science and he says that his favorite teacher is his science teacher. It reinforces the theory that good teachers motivate their students and bring out the best in them.

It's wonderful to see his creative spirit soar.

I wish Rohanpreet all success; whatever the outcome, he will always be my "Prince of Patiala".

Am I biased?  I plead guilty!

Am I being a bit clannish? Guilty!

But I am in love  - surely, then, I can be forgiven!

We are hooked on the Sa Re Ga Ma show as well, and yes, Rohanpreet is a delight to watch. I think, out of the three remaining candidates, he is undoubtedly the best. His reaching these heights, against the heavy odds he has obviously faced until now, is in itself a matter of great pride for our entire community. It's also a matter of personal pride for me to note that he is a student of Guru Harkrishan Public School, because it's my alma mater as well.

Even I am in love with this child: Sardar RohanPreet Singh. He has emerged as a very good singer. He sings with such an ease that his inner beauty reflects on his face while singing or otherwise. God bless him with all the happiness and victory in his field.

I absolutely agree that Rohanpreet is the best singer amongst the trio. He is a very sweet and down-to-earth kid. Respects his mentors. And Zoraver is so cute! Makes me feel proud to be a Sikh!
