PRESS REPORT
On the eve of the Seventh Annual Spinning Wheel Film Festival in Toronto, Canada, its Board of Trustees has named four filmmakers who are to receive film development grants from OMNI-TV as part of the latter‘s community film development initiative, the first and leading one of its kind in the world.
The four filmmakers thus named this year are:
Ali Kazimi
Iqbal Singh Mahal
Agnieszka Mlynarz
Keldip Singh Sandhu
Each grant is in the amount of $5000.00 Canadian.
OMNI-TV, head-quartered in Toronto, Canada, is The Spinning Wheel's lead media partner, and has been so since the Festival's founding in 2003.
Co-Founder and trustee of SWFF International, Dr. Birinder Singh Ahluwalia said: "Our intention is to encourage and support filmmakers of all backgrounds to venture into Sikh subjects and issues, and produce films not only of high quality, but also of optimum educational and entertainment value.
"To further this goal, we have set up an additional Film Fund which currently has a kitty of $50,000.00 for similar funding this year. And OMNI-TV, of course, continues its annual support through its film development initiative. We hope this will continue to bring waves of new films to our annual festivals."
Applications and proposals for film development assistance should be addressed to bsa@kwik.net and TSherSingh@GMail.com.
