Jaswant Singh Khalra's Last Speech

VIDEO

September 6 this year marks the 15th anniversary of the disappearance of S. Jawant Singh Khalra, a human rights lawyer, from his home in Amritsar. Witnesses saw him being kidnapped in broad daylight by Indian para-military officers. Since then, witnesses have also seen him tortured. He is believed to have been murdered in custody.

To date, his murderers - government employees who have been identified by witnesses - remain free.

The following link will take you to a video of the last speech he gave in the free world outside India - specifically, in Toronto, Canada.

What a great soul! May God bless his family.

Sardar Jaswant Singh Khalra was our Jedi warrior in the ever continuous conflict of Light v. Darkness. His life and legacy personified the Sikh ideals of seva. As his daughter Navkiran Kaur shared with me yesterday: "Papa was a born activist, but his transformation occurred in the eighties when he embraced Sikhi." A new website in the making to commemorate this great Sikh of the Guru and a real champion of people's right to life: www.Khalra.org.

We will forever be in his debt! May Waheguru bless him and may he rest in peace! How sad that often we spend so much time and energy lauding the sacrifices of the Sikhs of old but we often overlook the supreme sacrifices made for us during our own life time. History was and is being created daily by such men as Sardar Jaswant Singh Khalra!

Sardar Jaswant Singh is a true example of the Khalsa Spirit. The Sikh Nation needs to set up some kind of fund to help all the kids of our heroes. I have watched this video over many times. I wish every Sikh could love Sikhi as much as Sardar Jaswant Singh Khalra did.

The widow of Sardar Jaswant Singh is currently touring Canada and she made a stop in Ottawa where I had an opportunity to meet her, sit with her for a while and listen to her bold words. At one point, I asked, "Aren't you afraid living in Punjab after what the police/ government did to your husband and countless other Sikh men?" and she just looked me straight in the eye and said "What's the worst they can do, kill me?" It was a very humbling moment, and so rare to see a fearless and honest woman talk so brazenly about her mission.
