Treasure Trove of Sikh Artefacts on Auction Block

A treasure-trove of artefacts related to Sikh and Punjab history are part of an auction to be held by the Mullock’s Auction House on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 1.00 pm.
It will be conducted at Ludlow Racecourse, Shropshire, England.
Items of Sikh interest number in the dozens and fall within affordable range for the average collector, estimated to go for a possible handful of pounds sterling per item, all the way to several thousand pounds.
The highlights include a few spectacular miniatures of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Maharaja Duleep Singh, as well as a replica (c1911) of the British State Crown featuring a replica of the Kooh-i-noor diamond.
The Kohi-i-Noor belonged to the Emperor Ranjit Singh, but was taken from his son, the child-Emperor, Duleep Singh, while he was in British custody after the annexation of his Sikh kingdom.
The collection includes a number of historical paintings, illustrated manuscripts, letters, photographs, engraved prints and lithographs, books and magazines and documents, all from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
