Sikh-Britons Second Wealthiest: Government Report
NEWS REPORTSA few years ago, a study in the United States reported that Sikh-Americans were the highest earning (per capita) ethnic community in the country.
And now, in Great Britain -
A new report commissioned by the U.K. government and recently released, lists the wealthiest faith groups in Great Britain as follows: 1) Jews; 2) Sikhs; 3) Christians; 4) Hindus. Muslims follow behind.

This is great news! This really made my day. Congratulations to the Sikhs of America and Britain! I have no doubt in my mind that Sikh-Canadians are not far behind. We just need the census information to prove it. Two points have come out of this: a) Firstly, it has helped me come to terms with what has happened in India and the Punjab over the last 25 years. Now I understand that no matter what, we will always be stronger, more hardworking and compassionate than the majority and they will always resent us. b) Secondly, I have learned that it is not enough to be counted as an affluent community; we need to assert our influence like our Jewish counterparts to ensure justice and opportunities are made available and remain open to us all, including our Sikhs in the Punjab. Let us never, ever forget or turn our back on them ... we are ONE PANTH!

Actually a study concluded ten years ago that Sikh-Canadians are the second richest group in Canada, after the Jews.

I find Sikhs around the world inspiring. But things are rather dim with the Punjabi culture on the west coast in Canada. There are bright exceptions including very active Sikh youth and some of those who came to Canada in their youth decades ago and challenged head-on the brunt of Canadian racism with determined adherence to their faith and hard work. Punjabi west coast Canadians are likely to display substantial wealth. However, unfortunately a great deal of it is through a cesspool of unethical or illegal activities including every type of fraud imaginable - immigration, welfare, employment, tax, insurance, mortgage, business, extortion, drug dealing, etc. These are my brothers and sisters. They have a gritty Punjabi pride, but have an inferiority complex just underneath the surface that makes them easily purchased or placated by racist mainstream elements. I appreciate sikhchic.com being a source of optimism. However, out here, if we are not honest about the wealth and state of affairs, we will see more of the first signs of the wealth being an excuse to ignore the possible wasteland of a lost future Punjabi generation.

Congratulations. Sikhs have made their mark in almost every field in the U.K., U.S.A., Canada, Malaysia, Singapore and India. Unfortunately, here in Hong Kong the picture is not very rosy. Although no such study was done (because the community is small - <15000 - but my estimates put them economically speaking well behind other ethnic groups such as Sindhis, Gujratis, mainland Chinese, Malaysians and South Indians. The only consolation perhaps is that we are performing better than our immediate neighbours in West Punjab.

We must spread information amongst fellow Sikhs about our glorious history and the present strength in various parts of the world. We should project our achievers and heroes on the internet and the world's media. Strive for unity, be tolerant amongst our own groups and with others also. Hard work, dedication, pursuit of excellence, learning from others in different fields to update ourselves - all of these are essential. Lastly, identify forces assaulting our culture, religion. We must know the nefarious designs/ mischiefs of our enemies who wish to divide us, confuse us, demoralize and misinform the world about us. The strategy to spread addiction in Punjab by our enemies must be exposed. The changing demography of Punjab by pumping migrants from other state is a clever mischief to destroy our culture and weaken us politically, economically. We are weakest in identifying our present day enemies and friends who stood or can stand by us in the hour of carnage like the 84 pogroms organized by state agencies and the Delhi administration. Not punishing even a single killer from amongst the thousands of fanatic goons speak loudly of how much bias is within the Indian Govt and its judicial system. Still, with our intense faith in the Almighty, we must unite, rise, perform and analyze how to defend ourselves against discrimination, cheating, the enemy's games to divide us and weaken us economically. We should bridge and cement relations with all in the world who can stand by us in extreme crisis. THe Indian subcontinent is fuming with hatred and the 3rd World War/ Nuclear War will be thrust on humanity by extremist forces of Islamic/ Hindutva Talibans and saffron fascists engaged in the deadly propaganda war.

We might the richest of the rich but we need to watch out for the people that are there to divide us. Unity matters the most.
