The Morning Hukam:
A Meditation
INNI KAUR
Today’s Hukam, Darbar Sahib, Amritsar - Thursday, June 27, 2013
Giving me Your Hand, You saved me from the terrible fire, when I sought Your Sanctuary. Deep within my heart, I respect Your strength; I have abandoned all other hopes. || 1 || My Sovereign, when You enter my consciousness, I am saved. || 1 || Pause || You pulled me up out of the deep, dark pit. You have become merciful to me. You care for me, and bless me with total peace; You Yourself cherish me. || 2 || You have Graced me; breaking my bonds, and has delivered me. You inspire me to worship and to serve Divine Creation. || 3 || My doubts, my fears and infatuations have been dispelled, all my sorrows are gone. O Nanak, the Divine - the Giver of peace - has been merciful to me. I have met the Perfect True Guru. || 4 || 5 || 52 ||

Hukam my contemplation
Hukam my cradle
Hukam my life-breath …
As I listen to the hukam, an image of a deep dark pit flashes before me. Yes, I have known this darkness. I have experienced it. It scared me. I ran away. Tired of running, totally broken, I came back and faced the music. It was not a pretty sight. The light of naam showed the dirt within. Desperate to get rid of this dirt, my journey began. Shabad (Word) begins to chisel. It is a painful process. They say chiselling produces beauty. I wait patiently …
The Rahao (pause, reflection) line resounds within. “When You come into my consciousness then I am saved.”
This is my prayer and I am sure the prayer of every seeker as well.
