The Month of Chet
[March 14 - April 13]
Poems translated from Punjabi by GURMEET KAUR
1 Guru Nanak [Raag Tukhaari, GGS:1108]
In the month of Chet - enchanting
Spring exuberates
Forest flowers
Bees hum
I too shall blossom
My love
If
You'd come
Without you
My beloved
What comfort?
What joy?
What beauty?
Body and mind
Tear in agony
Blossoms
Of the mango tree
Melody
Of the koel bird
Slash through
My
Empty being
O my mother
Restless
As the buzzing bee
Beguiled by the
Blossoming boughs
Of maya
My soul withers
Prays Nanak
If I find you
Within
The flowering
Home of my heart
I shall
Ever be in serenity
In the month of Chet - enchanting
2 Guru Arjan [Raag Maajh, GGS:133]
In the month of Chet - enchanting
Ecstasy
Is found
Immersed in His devotion
Realization
With saintly souls
Through Naam's recitation
Fruitful
Is their birth
Who seek attainment
Futile
Goes life
Forsaking him - even for an instant
Permeating
Forests and meadows
Land, waters and ethers
He is for all
But the
Forlorn suffers
Fortunate
Are the surrendered
Ever in his grace
Yearns Nanak
For the vision
The eternal embrace
Sacrifice
To the ones
That bring this unity
Forever in bliss
Flowering
Rejoicing
In the month of Chet - enchanting

You have no idea how much I needed this message today. What a calming effect your words have on me. You are truly blessed by Waheguru ... Adonai ... Allah ... The One.

The melody fills my empty being and I too shall blossom. Head bows, heart opens, mind surrenders, knees bend, forehead touches Mother Earth. Nectar flows.

How to count our blessings: 'Sabh jee-o pind mukh nak dee-aa vartan ka-o pane/ ann khaanaa painan dee-aa ras an bhogaanee' [GGS:167.17] - 'He gave all beings souls, bodies, mouths, noses and water to drink/ He gave corn to eat, clothes to wear and other pleasures to enjoy.' Mlle. S., Inni, Gurmeet you all are our satsangis to remind us: 'Jin dee-ay so chit na aavee/ pasoo ha-o kar jaanee' (GGS:167) - 'But they do not remember the One who gave them all this. The animals think that they made themselves.' Head bows in humility.
