Snatam Kaur's Shabad in New Hollywood Film

by HARGOBIND SINGH

Snatam Kaur's recording of the Mool Mantar - also known as the 'Ik Oankaar' preamble from Japji Sahib, the Sikh morning prayer composed by Guru Nanak -  from her popular CD, Amrit Vela, is set to be featured in the new movie, Back Up Plan, starring Jennifer Lopez & Alex O' Loughlin. The film is a major Hollywood production from CBS Films and directed by Alan Poul.

This is the first time Snatam Kaur's music has been featured in a major Hollywood film. We encourage you all to see the film and let us know what you think!

In discussing with the producers of the film, it was of utmost importance that the music was featured in a respectful and uplifting manner. They would not allow me to view the section of the film but provided a synopsis. I won't give it away! They also assured me that they were fans of her music and had been exposed to it in a yoga class. We felt like their intentions were right, so we went ahead with it.

The film will be released on April 23, 2010 in theaters worldwide.

Snatam Kaur - the pride of our community. When she sings, it seems like each and every word comes straight from the Akal Purakh's Kingdom. May Waheguru bless her and be always with her.
