There Were Turbans Everywhere!WANDERLUST
July 2, 2012
When I was growing up here in Calgary (Alberta, Canada), Sikh-Canadian kids who wore turbans had a pretty hard life. They took a lot of shit off people for them.
Then yesterday, walking through Prince’s Island during Canada Day we started seeing people of all shapes, sizes and colors sporting turbans.
Every other person had one.
I mean they were literally everywhere. Babies had them. Kids had them. Seniors had them.
Then we found the tent where they were putting turbans on anyone who wanted one to promote cultural awareness. I fired off frame after frame. The light was perfect and the men who wrapped were artists with the cloth as I think you from the photos.
It was easily the best part of Canada Day for me and proof that things change, if only slowly.

The event was called "Celebrating Canada Day The Turban Way."The total count of people who got turbans tied during the Canada Day celebrations in Calgary at Prince's Island Park = 2069.That means an average of 210 turbans an hour!
