INNI KAUR

Today’s Hukam, Darbar Sahib, Amritsar - Wednesday, September 10, 2014

The One who sent you has now called you back; return to your home in peace and pleasure. In bliss and ecstasy sing the Divine’s praises; by this celestial tune you shall acquire your everlasting kingdom.  || 1 ||

Come back to your home, O my friend. The Divine has eliminated your enemies, and your misfortunes are past.  ||  Pause  ||

The Creator has glorified you and your running and rushing around has ended. In your home, there is rejoicing; the musical instruments continually play, and your Husband Divine has exalted you.  || 2 ||

Remain firm and steady and do not ever waver; take the Guru’s Word as your support. You shall be applauded and congratulated all over the world, and your face shall be radiant in the court of the Divine.  || 3 ||

All beings belong to You; You transform them, and You become their help and support. The Creator has worked a wondrous miracle; O Nanak, Your glorious greatness is true.  || 4 || 4 || 28 ||

[Guru Arjan, Raag Dhanasari, GGS:678]

Today’s hukam is a bit jarring for me. It’s a reminder that I am here for a short time.

I listen to it over and over again. I feel there is something more that Guru Sahib is telling me and I seem to be missing it.

I get into my car and head for work. The hukam stays with me as I travel the distance.

My limited understanding: The One who has sent you to this earth, is calling you back. Yes, I do hear the call constantly. I truly feel that I have been separated for many lifetimes.

Guru speaks:

Through Shabad realize who you truly are. Realize your divinity and reside in your true home – your inner self -- to experience complete happiness. Shabad will resound within you. The one who has won over his mind, has won over the universe and has entered the eternal kingdom of Divine Love. The experience of that love no one can take away.

The enemies: Lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego no longer have the power to attack you. They have been eliminated; and the cycle of birth and death has ended.

Remain firm and never waver from Guru’s Word.

Divine Light will radiate from you and you will be known throughout the ages.

This is the Divine’s Play for only the Divine can transform an ego centered being to a Divine oriented being.

I had the same reaction when I opened the computer early this morning to read today's mukhvaak. The first thought that went through my mind was very similar to Inni ji's. I thought it was a message that the end time is not far for me. I decided to check if any revisions were necessary to my will. As I read the hukam several times, more meanings unfolded. Usually I listen to shabads during the day from the same raag that the mukhvaak of the day is from. Call it faith or whatever but during times of indecision or big events in my life, the hukam has been so appropriate, as if Waheguru is responding to my predicament.

Inni ji and Kulvinder ji, the Hukamnama is conveying that realizing God and merging in Him leads a person to becoming like God. "A person becomes like Him" [GGS:549]. God is truthful and all loving (nirbhau and nirvaer), and we are to lose our 'self' and God-like get engaged in the service of humanity. God is One in all, and all is One. This Hukam is timely: the need of the day and age is to love humanity and not settle conflicts through wars.

Guru Nanak tells us that if you add the ingredient of intoxication of the Creator, then that intoxication is not like the intoxication of man-made intoxicants. The intoxication of love for the creator doesn't wear off! So the fear of death and aging day by day become more and more meaningless as one realizes that one's importance and one's life is not limited to the physical and the temporal and the worldly.

After having enjoyed life on this planet so much, it is sad to part, even when going back to God. I want to see Mars, other galaxies and parallel universes ...

"Sabhnaa saahurai vanja-naa sabh muklaavan haar" [GGS:50.19] -- "Everyone shall go to their husband Lord. Everyone shall be given their ceremonial send-off after the marriage."
